Zahia Ne’ma Sabet

Women in Technology (WIT) participant Zahia Ne’ma Sabet is a 42 year Emeriti student. She studied English Literature for two years but circumstances prevented her from completing her studies leading her to join courses that focused on English and secretarial skills. Zahia’s family members work in various fields such as trade and engineering but no one apart from her has entered the information technology field.

Zahia wanted to join the WIT program to keep up with the technological age and because she believed in the importance of computers for her and her family. Zahia also wanted to learn how to use the computer so she can complete her transactions via the internet, which she uses to trade stocks.

Zahia encourages other women to join the WIT program. “Apart from computer training I also gained important skills through the Professional Development workshops which increased my self-confidence and solidified my personal skills. I also learned how to work in a group and acquired managerial skills” Said Zahia about the program. She is currently planning to use these skills to open a small clothing design and décor business to contribute to her community.

Zahia would like to increase her knowledge and progress in all avenues so she can find the right circumstances to succeed in her business, overcome her challenges and achieve her ambitions.

Khadiga Bent Kuwailed, who was one of Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) wives is Zahia’s role model because she is an example of a strong successful business women, with her trade that stretched all over the Arabian Peninsula. Zahia thinks she differs than her mother’s generation because she is more self-dependent and has managed to keep up with new technologies of the age.
